INTRODUCTION:

  • OSCILLOSCOPE
  • Define the following terms Accuracy, Precision, Sensitivity, Resolution, error and range.
  • Name factors to consider while conducting measurements.
  • Describe the function and operation of the cathode ray tube, horizontal deflection, delay sweep, vertical deflection, and explain the differences between the alternate & chopped mode in a dual trace oscilloscope.

PHASE MEASUREMENT WITH OSCILLOSCOPE:

FREQUENCY MEASUREMENT WITH OSCILLOSCOPE:

  • Explain how both the sweep method & lissajous pattern can be used to measure the phase shift between two waveforms of the same frequency.
  • Describe how rise and fall time measurements are made using an oscilloscope

  • Explain how frequency is measured using both the time-based & lissajous-pattern methods

OSCILLOSCOPE PROBES & NOISE PICK-UP:

  • Describe the function & characteristics of oscilloscope probes and how to use square wave as a test signal.
  • Describe how interference arises from electromagnetic sources.

DC BRIDGES

  • Wheatstone bridge
  • Kelvin bridge

  • Determine unknown resistance's using either a Wheastone or Kelvin bridge.

MEASUREMENT OF CAPACITANCE & INDUCTANCE:

  • Determine unknown capacitance & inductance using AC-bridge and identify & compare the characteristics of measuring capacitance with series resistance & parallel resistance.
  • Identify & compare the characteristic of measuring inductance with the Maxwell & Hay bridge.
  • Use a Q-meter to measure Q-factor & inductance.

  • Describe the operation of average RMS & peak responding voltmeters.
  • Explain how to correct meter readings for waveform other than sine wave.
  • Describe & use distortion analyzer

DIGITAL VOLTMETER:

  • Describe how a digital voltmeter works in terms of V/F converter.
  • Compare the advantage of digital & analog meter.

ANALOG & DIGITAL STORAGE OSCILLOSCOPE:
